Chenoweth's Note: Jack played semi-professional baseball in Burick PA. He played for the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley field in April 1938. His father took a train to Tampa FL where he took Jack out of Spring training in August 1938 to attend IL Wesleyan University. He says he hated his father for about two months before recognizing his father had made the right decision. Jack worked at the Pullman Works in 1940 (Pullman).
He went to radar school in the Navy, landed at Makin Island as a Marine November 21, 1943. Two hours after landing on Kwajalein island January 31, 1944 two machine gun bullets hit him at the waist line. He returned to active duty a week latter. The Battle of Peleliu started September 15, 1944; Jack was hit by mortar shrapnel in the back of the legs four days after he landed. He finished scool at Syracuse University. A stroke scared him into quiting smoking in 1985.
