Fleming County is located in Northeastern Kentucky. It was formed of land carved out of Mason County in 1798. In the early days of settling Kentucky, there were two forts located in Fleming County in addition to Fleming Station. Stockton Station, lead by Major George Stockton, was located near the northern edge of where Flemingsburg now stands. Stockton was also a native of Virginia and he was a friend of Fleming's. The other fort, Cassidy's Station, was lead by Michael Cassidy. He was Irish, small in size but brave in heart and deed. He was a lad when he came to the United States and he fought in the Revolutionary War. Cassidy's Station was located about 2 1/2 miles west of Stockton Station and about the same distance from Fleming Station. Cassidy was the first state senator from the area and he was elected as representative several times.  (Cite Chenoweth's Note: This county information explains the marriage was in the area of Fleming then called Mason County).
Michael Cassidy, who came from Ireland to Maryland, enlisted under Washington and served through the Revolutionary war. After peace was declared, Michael came to the newly erected county of Mason, established Cassidy Station, represented the county in the State Legislature, and when Fleming was taken off, represented that county nine terms.   (Cite Chenoweth's Note: Iteration ).
